Sustainable Packaging– How does it help our planet?

Save the environment and eat a delicious dessert too

By Sammy Davidoff

Happy Earth Day everyone! We thought it would be fitting to talk a bit about our packaging at C.B. Dough one of our missions with the brand was to use only sustainable packaging options to assure we do our part in helping save the planet. According to The Balance– Small Business, environmental sustainability is “responsibly interacting with the planet to maintain natural resources and avoid jeopardizing the ability for future generations to meet their needs.” It can also be described as helping stabilize the current disruptive relationship between earth's two most complex systems, which are human culture and the living world.

Both individuals and businesses + institutions play a major role in sustainability and it requires an effort from both ends in order to see a beneficial change. As a business and as individuals we try our best to keep the environment in mind. With C.B.Dough specifically, when we launched and released our first product (our ready to bake CBD infused cookie dough) our packaging was and still remains a glass jar of pre portioned cookie dough balls. This packaging option was not only unique but also sustainable in that the glass jars are recyclable and reusable. Plenty of our customers wash and repurpose their C.B. Dough jars after they make the cookies. I personally use mine for all sorts of things, but most often I put them on display in my apartment and fill them with different candies depending on the season. I also use mine as a drinking glass, a storage container for ingredients, or for making overnight oats. Although all of our products can’t be packaged in glass jars, we still make sure to use recyclable and/or compostable materials for all of our packaging to keep the brand as sustainable as possible.

If you’re looking for some other tips on how to make small changes in your lifestyle to become more sustainable, I've included some below:

  • Use as much natural light as possible before turning on light bulbs

  • Add an extra layer of clothing rather than turning on the heat

  • Turn off the lights when you leave a room

  • Use public transportation

  • Use your own reusable bags for groceries

  • Use a refillable water bottle over plastic water bottles

  • Shop second-hand clothing stores or buy from ethically sourced/environmentally conscious fashion brands

  • Repurpose glass jars (C.B. Dough especially)

  • Only run the dishwasher when it's full

  • Read labels for toxic and harmful chemicals before purchasing/using

  • Use washable metal straws over plastic disposable

  • Eat more whole foods (OR try going vegan!)

We hope you’ll try to adopt a few of these tips into your lifestyle wherever you can and help join us in reducing waste and sustaining the planet for future generations. We love finding new ways to help as well, so comment below any tips you have and currently use to live more sustainably!
